The Varsinais-Suomi parliamentary group has elected Member of Parliament Pauli Aalto-Setälä (National Coalition Party) as its new chairperson. The election took place at the group’s meeting on Wednesday, March 11, when Saara-Sofia Sirén (National Coalition Party), who served as chairperson during the current parliamentary term, stepped down from the position to assume the role of CEO of the Finnish Centre for Pensions (Tela) and leave Parliament.
At the meeting, the group acknowledged Sirén and thanked her for her consistent and constructive work in strengthening advocacy and cooperation for Varsinais-Suomi.
Continuing as vice-chairpersons are Vilhelm Junnila (Finns Party) and Saku Nikkanen (Social Democratic Party).
Aalto-Setälä says he is taking on his new role with great motivation.
– Thank you for the trust from all parties! We are united by the interests of Varsinais-Suomi residents, and together we have already achieved much, Aalto-Setälä emphasizes.

The Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi coordinates the parliamentary group’s activities and is responsible for meeting agendas and communication between members of parliament and regional stakeholders. The Council’s role is to ensure that the group has access to up-to-date information on the region’s objectives and strategic issues.
The group serves as a forum for addressing key advocacy themes relevant to the region and ensuring their inclusion in national decision-making across party lines.
