Guide for Elected Officials
The guide compiles key practices and instructions for carrying out elected duties. The guide provides information on meeting procedures, fees and compensation, and other matters that support the daily work of elected officials. The aim is to facilitate the performance of elected duties and ensure that practical information is easily and clearly accessible in one place.
Register of Interests
An elected official or office holder of the Regional Council must declare their executive positions and positions of trust in companies and other entities engaged in business activities. In addition, a declaration must be made regarding significant assets and other interests that may be relevant to the performance of elected and official duties. Declarations of interests are regulated by the Local Government Act. You can review the declarations in the Varsinais-Suomi Regional Council’s register of interests.
The obligation to declare interests applies to the following in the Varsinais-Suomi Regional Council:
– the chair and vice-chairs of the regional council and the audit committee
– members and deputy members of the regional board and the presenter (regional director)
– members and deputy members of the project funding section and the land use section and presenters
The declaration must be made within two months of the person being elected to their position. The Regional Council must maintain a register of interests on a public network. The declaration of interests is made to the audit committee, which monitors compliance with the declaration obligation and brings the declarations to the attention of the regional council. The audit committee may, if necessary, request that the person required to declare submit a new declaration or supplement an existing declaration.
