The Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi has organized the Influencer School since 2016, and nearly 200 young people have already completed the program. The training has given young people the confidence to participate in societal discourse, influence their own environment, and take on positions of responsibility.
The Influencer School is designed especially for upper secondary school students interested in societal issues, those taking a gap year, or young people beginning their higher education studies. Throughout the academic year, participants gain comprehensive insight into the world of advocacy—different organizations, decision-making processes, and concrete outcomes. The goal is to lower the threshold for engaging in societal discourse, encourage careers in advocacy, and build important networks.
What Will You Learn in the School?
During the year, participants explore different levels of decision-making: from municipalities and the region to the wellbeing services county, parliament, and the European Union. At the same time, they become familiar with the operations of the media, business sector, and organizations, as well as international relations. The instructors include a range of inspiring professionals, young advocates, experienced decision-makers, and experts from the Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi.
A Free Opportunity to Become an Advocate
Approximately 20 young people are selected for the Influencer School each year, and participation is free of charge. It is part of the Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi’s advocacy work, supporting youth participation and ensuring their voices are heard. Those selected are expected to commit for the entire academic year.
Students at Turku University of Applied Sciences can receive academic credit for the Influencer School, and students from other universities of applied sciences can also arrange credit with their own institution.
