The member states participating in the European Union’s Central Baltic Programme have entrusted the Regional Council of Southwest Finland with launching preparations for the programme’s next funding period. The decision represents a significant vote of confidence in the Council’s long-term work and expertise in managing international programme cooperation.
The Central Baltic Programme is a European Union cross-border cooperation programme that funds international development projects implemented in Finland, Åland, Sweden, Estonia and Latvia.
The Regional Council of Southwest Finland is now launching the preparation of the programme’s content for the 2028–2034 period. During the coming year, the programme will be developed in close cooperation with regions across the programme area, participating member states, public authorities and other partners.
The Regional Council of Southwest Finland serves as the Managing Authority of the current Central Baltic Programme and hosts the programme’s Joint Secretariat. The Council’s role in managing and developing the programme has been built over many years through close cooperation with the countries and regions participating in the programme.
Throughout the preparation process, stakeholders and project organisations will also be widely consulted to ensure that the programme responds as effectively as possible to the development needs of the regions in the years ahead.
The objectives and priorities of the new programme will be further defined as the preparation process progresses. The aim is to create a programme that continues to strengthen cooperation between countries while supporting regional competitiveness, sustainable development and the ability to address shared challenges.
