The Regional Plan for Varsinais-Suomi has been prepared as comprehensive regional plans developed by sub-region. The oldest, the Regional Plan for the Turku Urban Region, was confirmed by the Ministry of the Environment in August 2004, the Regional Plan for the Salo Region in November 2008, and the most recent Regional Plans for the Loimaa Region, the Peripheral Municipalities of the Turku Region, the Turku Archipelago, and Vakka-Suomi in March 2013. The comprehensive plan has been supplemented with thematic partial regional plans for the Salo-Lohja railway shortcut, wind power, land use in urban areas, services and transport, and natural values and resources.
