The Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi has organized the Influencer School since 2016, and nearly 200 young people have already completed the training. The program has given young people the courage to participate in societal discourse, influence their own environment, and take on responsible roles.
The Influencer School is designed especially for upper secondary students interested in societal issues, young people on a gap year, or those beginning their higher education studies. During the academic year, participants gain comprehensive exposure to the world of advocacy—different organizations, decision-making processes, and concrete outcomes. The goal is to lower the threshold for engaging in societal discourse, encourage careers in advocacy, and build important networks.
Throughout the year, participants explore different levels of decision-making: from municipalities and the region to the wellbeing services county, parliament, and the European Union. At the same time, they become familiar with the operations of media, business, and organizations, as well as international relations. The instructors include a range of inspiring professionals, young advocates, experienced decision-makers, and experts from the Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi.
Approximately 20 young people are selected for the Influencer School annually, and the program is free of charge for participants. It is part of the Regional Council of Varsinais-Suomi’s advocacy work, which supports youth participation and ensures their voices are heard. Those selected are expected to commit for the entire academic year.
Students at Turku University of Applied Sciences can receive academic credits for the Influencer School, and students from other universities of applied sciences can also arrange accreditation with their own institution.
