We are pleased to introduce Maijastiina Vilenius, who started at the Regional Council of Southwest Finland at the beginning of March after a long background in customer service and administration. <\/p>\n

Who are you and where do you come from?<\/h2>\n

I am originally trained as a teacher of Finnish language and literature, but my career has taken me through a variety of roles in customer service and administration. From 2010 to 2014, I worked as a substitute teacher, after which I also graduated as a business professional in customer service and sales and have worked in various customer service positions. <\/p>\n

Since 2018, I have been part of F\u00f6li: first in customer service, then in the City of Turku\u2019s joint service point Monitor at the Market Square, and since 2021 as an executive secretary in F\u00f6li\u2019s administration. In addition, I am one of the founding members of the Turku Comic Book Store. <\/p>\n

What do you expect from the role of planning secretary?<\/h2>\n

Taking on this role feels exciting and stimulating. Planning is new to me, so learning and familiarizing myself with the work keeps my interest alive. However, the job also includes familiar elements, such as case management and organizing meetings and events. <\/p>\n

I am particularly interested in themes related to nature conservation, such as the Archipelago Sea, and in public transport corridors. I also hope to develop my skills in various communication-related programs, such as InDesign and WordPress. <\/p>\n

The first weeks<\/h2>\n

The first weeks have gone excellently. I have received a warm welcome and have quickly become involved both in the assistant pool and in the regional planning team. New tasks have come at a manageable pace, and it has been exciting to work on concrete projects. <\/p>\n

Challenges and new ideas<\/h2>\n

At the moment, no major challenges are visible, but I am aware that it takes time to get to grips with a new and broad set of responsibilities. I plan to approach challenges with an open attitude, by asking questions boldly and learning through hands-on experience. <\/p>\n

Free time and hobbies<\/h2>\n

My free time is mostly spent with my family. With my 9-year-old child, we go cycling, swimming, and spend a lot of time outdoors. In the autumn, we go mushroom picking and visit flea markets. Through my interest in comics, I also participate in comic festivals and related activities. Occasionally, I play cards at Bar Bristol \u2013 our favorite game is four-player pidro. <\/p>\n

Favorite places in Southwest Finland<\/h2>\n

My favorite places in Southwest Finland include the Koroisens outdoor area and Ruissalo, as well as Cosmic Comic Cafe and Dynamo in the center of Turku. My home is located in the idyllic Laivanrakentajain village in Pansio.
