Business Turku is strengthening the growth of the Turku region’s security and dual-use sector through networks for autonomous systems and maritime industry dual-use. The networks create concrete conditions for companies to grow and find new international growth for their products in the security and defense sector <\/strong><\/p>\n

Finnish companies are increasingly interested in expanding their business into the defense and security sector, says long-time defense industry expert Jukka Holkeri.<\/strong> The sector is growing continuously and funding is readily available.  <\/p>\n

To meet this need, Business Turku, the Turku region’s development company, is strengthening the Turku region’s security and dual-use ecosystem, which will initially include maritime industry and autonomous systems networks, with plans to later develop a life science network, among others. <\/p>\n

The starting point is to provide companies with concrete support for growth in the sector.<\/p>\n

\u2013 In the networks, we particularly help companies operating in the civilian sector to identify the dual-use potential of their products, i.e., to expand their business into the defense sector, explains Business Turku’s operating environments lead Tero Niemi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The goal is to bring together the right companies, the region’s universities’ top-level research, and authorities, provide information on international markets, and open doors globally to enable growth. Growth will arise both from existing companies expanding their business into the sector and from the emergence of new companies and innovations.  <\/p>\n

According to Holkeri, the maritime operating environment and maritime industry expertise combined with autonomous systems and the utilization of artificial intelligence create a unique foundation for the emergence of security-critical and internationally significant innovations.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Strengthening maritime security is becoming increasingly critical in the current global situation. The Turku region now has an exceptional opportunity to create something completely new on a global scale, Holkeri says. <\/p>\n
